City, Central schools battle it out to star at national debate

THE heat is on as school debate teams in Port Moresby and Central fight for a semi-final spot in the Em Stret School Challenge.
“This is a platform we created to let youths inspire youths and help students to be confident in themselves,” Em Stret Holdings Ltd director Vani Nades said.
Eight schools from Port Moresby and two from Central are taking part.
The event started on Monday and will end tomorrow with the announcement of the winning team to represent NCD and Central in the national debate championship.
Gerehu Secondary School grade 10 student Marie Josie Navara said it was exciting and challenging.
“We are afraid but how will we learn if we just sit in our comfort zones?” she said.
“This is a good learning opportunity and I’m making new friends as well.”
Other provinces who will take part in the national championship will host their debate challenges in their respective centres.
The selected speakers will represent their provinces in the national debate and selected speakers from the national debate will represent PNG in the Melanesian regional school debate challenge.
