A GENERAL clean-up organised by the Lae City Council is coming to a close, and it is calling on residents to keep the city area clean.
A spokesman for the Lae policing unit said the clean-up, which ends this week, had been successful so far.
He is urging city residents to be considerate when dumping rubbish or spitting betelnut juice.
He said the city council had spent a lot of money on the exercise, which targeted main shopping areas at Eriku, Top Town and the main market.
He said it was now up to the general public to do their bit.
He said Lae was cleaner than some parts of Port Moresby and towns in the highlands region and everyone should work together to keep it clean.
“A clean city leads to a cleaner attitude,” he said.
