City development not benefitting rural majority

I REFER to learned writer Samson Wena who continues to express his views on the good work on the Government of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

Wena continues to rally support for the O’Neill Government and thus is asking the people of this country to return this government in next year’s general elections.

The writer is using the massive infrastructure developments in Port Moresby and Lae to substantiate his claims.

I have on numerous occasions attempted to provide alternative views and balance these observations, arguing that despite the good work of the O’Neill Government, these infrastructure developments are concentrated in the main cities, which is of no socio-economic benefits to the rest of the country.

Since all these massive developments have no direct benefit and connectivity to the rural majority, I am not willing to jump and dance to Wena’s media propaganda.

I am concerned about these massive infrastructure developments because of the corruption culture that has become endemic in the government system.

I will continue to say that Port Moresby city’s development is not Papua New Guinea’s development so will not join in Wena’s grandstanding.

Port Moresby is the money laundering and the corruption capital of PNG and therefore its development is of no socio-economic value and benefit to the majority of citizens.

I am constantly troubled by Wena’s assertion that PNG will never go broke.

There is evidence around the world, especially Africa and Europe, that economies have collapsed and are collapsing because of corruption and bad governances practices by governments.
