City experiencing low water pressure due to ‘trapped air in pipes’

SOME parts of Port Moresby are experiencing low water pressure or no water at all with businesses being affected.
Attempts by The National to get comments from Water PNG on the water cuts and shortages experienced around the city were unsuccessful.
But acting managing director Parkop Kurua said previously that the issue was a result of trapped air in water pipes.
Kurua said affected customers needed to contact Water PNG so that its technical staff would attend to the problem and release the air trapped in the pipes.
The National, which relies on water for its printing and production, among other needs, had been facing the water issue since last year.
Transport and property manager Ronnie Ebore said the company had been facing water supply problems since last year.
“When we call to report the issue, sometimes they say its due to water rationing, which is acceptable,” Ebore said.
“Most of the time, their technicians say nothing is wrong with the water flow.
“But the problem continues.
“We have reported this matter to them on many occasions but nothing has been done.”
The Unity Mall nearby, which houses more than 90 small-medium enterprises (SMEs), had also been experiencing low water pressure. Brian Bell and City Pharmacy Ltd had not experienced issues with water supply to their businesses.
