WITH the aim of being the leading hospital in providing specialised health care for Papua New Guineans, the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) has been building expertise through the support of Chinese medical teams over the years, the hospital’s chief executive officer says.
During presentation of medicines, medical equipment and consumables worth K300,000 by the Chinese government, Dr Paki Molumi thanked the people of China for supporting the hospital with necessary resources, including specialist medical professionals for more than 20 years.
He said since the hospital was linked to the University of Papua New Guinea School of Medicine and Health Science, Chinese medical teams that came every two years not only provided health care but were actively involved in training of health professionals.
“They fill in the gaps that we have in the hospital,” he said.
“Members of the team are highly specialised professionals and some are professors in their fields.
“Some new and improved ways of doing things were established through their support. Through this partnership, we have also sent our doctors to study in China.”
Chinese Ambassador to PNG Zeng Fanhua said the Chinese medical team was welcomed last week which reaffirmed his country’s long-term support of PMGH.
“As told by PM, China will support the revitalisation of the Taurama Military Hospital,” he said.
