The National, Wednesday February 25th, 2015
THE Port Moresby Rugby League Super Nines tournament will be from February 28 to March 6 at the Murray Barracks Oval.
The tournament will see the league’s 16 clubs and teams from the city’s offseason leagues as well as some from Central, compete for the top honours.
League chairman Dr James Naipao, pictured, said the deadline for affiliation fees is today, with men’s sides paying K300 and K200 for women’s teams.
Naipao said clubs that failed to pay would not be accepted.
All payments should be deposited into the league’s bank account: BSP account no. 1000324653, Boroko branch.
He said registration forms would be given to teams upon payment.
He said the club officials needed to produce deposit butts as proof.
The former Kumul forward said that only 32 men’s and 12 women’s teams would be accepted for the challenge, which would be played over two weekends. The men’s competition is divided into eight pools of four and the women’s, four pools of four.
Naipao is hoping that long-time PRL Super Nines major sponsor, the Mineral Resources Development Company, will support the challenge. The theme of the event is “Lukautim mama graun bilong yu” (look after your land).
The total prize pool for the event is K20,000. The cup winners get K5000 (men) and K2500 (women) and the runners-up K2500 and K1500. The plate winners get K2000 and K1000 and their runners-up get K1000 and K800.
Bowl winners get K1000 and K600 and their runners-up get K800 and K400 while the pennant winners get K600 and runners-up K300.
