City manager: Front up with positive attitude
A positive attitude is what PNG should present to the world and not infrastructures, an official says.
National Capital District Commission deputy city manager Lulu Ted said what PNG would present to world leaders coming for the Apec summit depended on people’s attitude and behaviour.
“It is not the infrastructures that we are seeing but how we present ourselves to the outside communities,” he said.
“Most importantly, our own neighbours, if we respect ourselves we would respect our neighbours and we can respect other people.
“When we are abusing ourselves by breaking the laws and basic rules in society, we are turning the society upside down.
“The society becomes chaotic and unfriendly, it becomes a place where you don’t want to walk in the night and that is because people’s mindset and attitudes are not right.”
Ted said drug and substance abuse contributed to a lot of social ills in society and they were the cause of problems. Drug abusers are making our towns, cities and communities become unsafe and unpleasant places to live.
“It is not good for you and the society, and in the city we are doing a lot of social programmes and investing there because we are hosting a lot of events.
“We need to continue to advocate to change the mindset of our people.”
NCD Governor Powes Parkop had said one of the biggest challenges for NCDC was ill-behaviour and low-value system which many residents had subscribed to.
