THE Waigani market will be reopened today, with police warning the public against crime.

Acting NCD Met Supt Perou N’dranou said the market had a manager and security in place and they should ensure law and order if they did not want police to intervene again.

The public has to take responsibility to keep crime out and ensure safetyfor users, he said.

There were no problems during the one-week closure of the market under police presence, he said.

Police will intervene if such problems arose, he said.

The market was closed after a policeman investigating a crime was assaulted. He was seriously injured.

“We would like the public to use the facilities appropriately,” N’dranou said.

He appealed to the public to restore peace and harmony to bring back confidence.
