City netball awaits word on move
The National, Friday 6th June 2014
THE Port Moresby netball association is uncertain when to move out of the Rita Flynn courts before renovation work commences for the 2015 Pacific Games.
Association president Evanelia Kini said presently there had been no confirmation from the Papua New Guinea Netball Federation, who are in close consultation with the Games Organising Committee.
Kini said her executive have been told that a ground breaking ceremony was expected in the next three to four weeks.
The POMNA executives have decided to run only one round due to the uncertainties with the redevelopment of facilities at the Rita Flynn courts.
“My executive decided POMNA runs for one round only due to the uncertainties with redevelopment works to the RFNC (Rita Flynn). At this stage we’ve got no confirmed date from PNG Netball except that in three to four weeks time we will expect a ground breaking ceremony at RFNC,” Kini said.
Some members of the Port Moresby netball competition say the executive must tell them what the alternative venue is and when they will play there. This weekend the competition goes into a recess due to the long Queen’s birthday weekend.
The competition will resume on June 14.
