City police investigating young man’s death

POLICE are investigating the shooting of a young man in Badili by a security guard last Monday.
The youth, Raphael Movi, 20, living in the Fanima community, Talai settlement in Badili, was shot between 2.30pm and 3pm as he was walking to his home.
He was rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital but died soon after.
National Capital District Met Supt Perou N’dranou said police were aware of the case and was looking into the incident.
A seven-year old schoolgirl in uniform received three bullet wounds on her forehead as well and a woman was injured on the left arm.
According to witnesses around the area, Movi was in the company of three friends who were drunk.
As they were walking up to their home, a vehicle belonging to a wholesale company was driven up the area and the security firm’s vehicle was following.
As they drove past, a guard fired a shot at Movi, and injured the girl and the woman.
Movi fell on the footpath and rolled off it into a garden below.
Yani Gaida, an eyewitness, said there were a number of people on the road at that time.
Some children were returning from school.
Gaida said another security firm vehicle rushed Movi and the other injured people to the Port Moresby General Hospital.
Unfortunately, Movi was pronounced dead while doctors were working on him.
Police are investigating.
