A THOUSAND police men and women will provide security today as Parliament resumes at 10am to vote in a new Prime Minister.
NCD and Central Assistant Commissioner of Police Donald Yamasombi, pictured, told The National that officers from both the Central and NCD command, including the Bomana Police College and Police Head Quarters would be out in full force to ensure public safety and order.
Yamasombi made this comments following Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s resignation in Parliament in yesterday.
“It is part of our duties and we have been providing security for Parliament sittings and will do so tomorrow (today),” Yamasombi said.
“Police will also be at the two main highways in the city, to control traffic coming in and going out.”
“I appeal to citizens to allow the mandated leaders to carry out their duties on the floor of Parliament,” he said.
Yamasombi also thanked the people for respecting and working with law enforcement since Tuesday when Parliament resumed.
“So far it has quiet, there were a few supporters who congregated near the parliament area but police managed to disperse the crowd.
“Like I said earlier, lets allow our mandated leaders to carry out their duties on the floor of Parliament,” he said.
