City police on routine check arrest five men

A ROUTINE vehicle check in the National Capital District led to police arresting five men in possession of a homemade gun, alcohol, packs of marijuana and live ammunition.
The men were attempting to avoid a police checkpoint near the National Research Institute.
Traffic police stopped the vehicle as it drove into the University of PNG homes near the old International Village dormitories, police said.
The five were removed from their vehicle and checked.
Met Supt Perou N’Dranou confirmed that the five would be charged five different charges.
They would be charged with possession of live ammunition, homemade firearm, dangerous drugs, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Meanwhile the NCD Fox Unit, acting on a tip, chased a vehicle and arrested a man from East Sepik at East Boroko.
The man was allegedly part of a robbery in a car park where K300,000 in cash was stolen from two expatriates.
The suspect is believed to have followed the two expatriates.
