City residents asked to be mindful of rubbish to help government manage waste

National Capital District residents are asked to be mindful of rubbish and help the government manage waste in the city.
National Capital District Commission project manager John Makop said the government spent a lot of money trying to manage waste in the city and if people helped, the money could be used for other developments.
“Most of our funding goes to cleaning the city, so if people do the right thing, don’t spit buai or betel nuts everywhere, throw rubbish at the right places then we could invest in other projects,” he said
He said the government spent money to engage waste-management contractors to take care of domestic, commercial, economical, medical and public waste around the city.
Mokop said if less money was spent on removing waste around the city, more money could be used to fix roads and do other projects to develop the city.
“With more money saved, the government could look at other projects like sealing potholes along roads, reconstruct roads and other activities in the health and education department,” he said.
Makop stressed that in developed countries, people made it their responsibility to throw their rubbish in the right place and if we do it here too, the country and city would eventually change for better.
