PETER Gunemba’s Toti City thrashed Buang 8-1 in their National Soccer League second round in Lae on Saturday.
The City men were clearly rejuvenated from the previous weekend’s game against the Best PNG United FC where they were held to a tight 3-2 final score.
However, on Saturday Toti showed newcomers Buang, why there were premiers.
Buang held them in check for only the first 13 minutes following which the floodgates were flung wide.
Nigel Dabinyaba opened the scoring, followed four minutes later by midfielder Emmanuel Simon with his first of a brace.
Simon scored again after captain Raymond Gunemba lured the young Joel Odai out of the Buang goalmouth.
With Buang’s backline defence crumbling, Gunemba went for a header to increase the lead to 4-0 after the ball deflected from Odai’s hands.
Gunemba added his second goal minutes later after Makis Gelmal made good ball play on the right flank before passing to his captain to increase the lead to 5-0.
Buang picked momentum in the second half putting pressure on the City defence.
Their hard work paid off with Yama Shong sailing the ball into the net for his side to trail 1-5 but that was the only goal for the visitors as City added three more goals through Dabinyaba, Tutizama Tanito and Mayboon Pwesai for the 8-1 victory.
Captain Gunemba was happy with his boys for the win but said that there was still room for improvement in their game.
He said the City needed work on and fixing some areas before facing Madang this weekend.
Buang coach Raymond Nasa, on the other hand, told The National that his men did well against City.
Nasa said the boys were in camp for just four days and the match was like a trial for them.
“I have seen where our weaknesses are and we’ll work to fix those areas.”
City 8 (N. Dabinyaba 2, E. Simon 2, R. Gunemba 2, T. Tanito, M. Pwesei goals) Buang 1 (Yama Shong, goal).
