City to stage taekwondo trials

 THE National Capital District Taekwondo will stage its first selection trials for the 2016 PNG Games on the January 23-24. 

This will be the first in a series of three trials before a final selection is done on July 30-31.  

Part of the NCD team will then travel to Cairns for a training camp from January 25-29 under the watchful eyes of Brad Hope.

Tournament director Master Jamuga Stone said NCD Taekwondo would then send its elite team to a training camp in Sydney on the June 20-24 under the watchful eyes of grandmaster Chun Suk Suh, the highest ranking 9th dan World Taekwondo Federation instructor in the Oceania Region and Oceania Taekwondo Union referee chief, master Rene Leveaux.

Stone will do his 6th dan black belt test to be recognised by the WTF and the World Chung Do Kwan Taekwondo Federation, South Korea.  This will make him the highest ranking black belt holder in the martial arts in the country. 

The grading test will be supervised by grandmaster Chun Suk Suh, 9th dan black belt and Master Robert Fitton, 7th dan black belt.

NCD Taekwondo executives have selected Sam Ware, 2nd dan black belt holder, PNG heavyweight champion and 2015 Pacific Games bronze medallist as the new coach.

He will be assisted by 1st dan black belt holder, Duaba Dauba to head the NCD Taekwondo team.  

Stone has invited all interested taekwondo clubs in NCD, Central and Gulf to register their clubs and fighters for the trials in January.
