LAE Bowling Club is set to host the PNG National Women’s Triples tournament this weekend.
The tournament, which had been out of the limelight for some years, is sure to attract enthusiastic women bowlers from five lawn bowls clubs.
Defence (Port Moresby), Mt Hagen, Goroka, Bulolo and host Lae have confirmed theri attendance, according to Bowls PNG women’s representative Hilan Handen, .
Handen said they were looking at around 26 teams of three players from the five clubs to congregate at the LBC for the two-day event.
“We have not staged the event for some years for reasons unknown, but the women bowlers are very excited and are looking forward to come back into the bowls circle.”
Handen said the players would be travelling in on Friday, and in the evening, attend a delegates meeting.
The games will start on Saturday and end on Sunday with the finals.
Handen said there were no sponsors for the tournament and appealed to any Good Samaritan, who had bowling at heart, to support the event.
She is hoping a sponsor will come at the eleventh hour to support the women’s event, because the game has put PNG on the world map when Geau Tau won gold at the Commonwealth Games (Auckland 1990).
Interest sponsors can contact Handen on 73731300 or 72487843.
