SCHOOLS and parents should ensure that students are at school so they can be vaccinated, National Capital District public health services director Dr Niko Wuatai says.

Schools should give out consent letters from the health services to parents early to avoid students missing out on their protection against measles, he said.

“Letters have been sent out to schools prior to our visit and it would be proper for the school administration to send out these letters to make sure that no student misses school on these days,” he said.

“The vaccination roll-out programme will cover eight schools in each of the three electorates for two to three days before the next eight is covered,” he said.

Since the start of the programme, nurses said that they had not fully vaccinated the total number of students because either the students had withdrawn or they were absent from class.

Sister Gethrude Awa from the Murray Barracks clinic, who had helped the team from NCD Health, yesterday said according, to school records not all the students had received their vaccination.

She said the record showed that there were more than 2000 students enrolled but the number of students who got vaccinated yesterday was fewer than that.

She made an appeal to parents whose child has missed out on being vaccinated to go to the Murray Barracks clinic to get vaccinated.
