PUBLIC servants in East Sepik have been advised to maintain their work ethics and be proactive in the delivery of services.
Governor Sir Michael Somare said officers were not allowed to drink alcohol or chew betel nut during working hours or in their workplaces because it painted a bad picture on the public service.
Sir Michael challenged public servants to follow his example because he had never in his 44 years of public service gotten drunk or chewed betel nut during working hours.
He said Sepik people had gone out to work in Bougainville, New Britain and Wau Bololo in plantations and gold fields as labourers.
“We are hardworking people therefore you, our public servants in the provincial, district and local level government administrations, should also be hardworking,” he said.
“If there are jobs still pending after 4.06pm, you have to stay back and complete your tasks before you retire.
“This is your province and country. You must take pride and work hard to serve the 400,000 people of this province. I want true workmanship from you.”
He told public servants in Wewak on Tuesday that East Sepik was rich in resources and civil servants must lift their performance to serve hospitals, schools and roads.
