Claims of political influence

THE attack on Parliament on Tuesday by security forces over allowances is politically-influenced and motivated, Commander of the Joint Security Task Force and Commissioner of Police Gari Baki says.
He told a media conference yesterday the officers were guided and investigations would unravel that.
“It’s disappointing that politicians have to choose the weakest fabric of command structure in both organisations that they come in to destroy,”he said.
“It is shameful. I have very strong views that it is politically motivated – whether it is politicians from the Opposition or those within the Government.
“I’m also aware that some senior members of the constabulary are also part of this. They using the efforts of the men to destroy the very fabric of the organisation that some of us have assisted to build over the years.”
Baki said everyone who participated in Apec security operations were told that they would be paid K200 per day for three weeks.
“People chose to make up their own amount of money because they think it is an international event and we should be enumerated,” he said.
“I will not buy that.”
