Claims suspects’ relatives issuing threats

FAMILY members of a village law and order chairman who was allegedly shot dead by a police raiding party some eight years ago have received death threats.
Robert Sangi, brother of the deceased Dominic, alleged that relatives of the policemen allegedly involved in the killing made the threats to his relatives in Angoram last week.
“They said if they caught up with one of us, they will attack and kill us,” Robert said.
When contacted by The National, East Sepik police commander Supt Gesa said: “I know nothing about that. If such threats were issued, the right thing to do is to report the matter to the police for investigation.”
Dominic was allegedly shot dead by Angoram police in the early hours of Jan 3, 2011.
Robert said: “My relatives have nothing to do with them.
“We have no problem with the relatives of the policemen.
“It is the policemen in Angoram at that time who caused this problem with us and we have done nothing to them.
“All we want now is justice for the death of my brother who innocently died for nothing.”
Robert appealed to Gesa to intervene and help get his officers on the ground to investigate the alleged murder by the policemen at that time.
“This is the second time that we received such threats,” he said.
“The first time was when my brother was killed and all the villagers were barred from travelling out of the village to do marketing or other businesses.
“We were also warned not to report the matter to police in Angoram or Wewak.”
Robert said the threats would not stop him from seeking justice for his brother and family members.
