POLICE are set to break up a pirate syndicate in Milne Bay after arresting two suspects on an island during a dawn-raid in Alotau district, police commander Supt Peter Barkie says.
“The police taskforce based on Samarai Island went over to Kanakope Island and arrested these suspects on Friday night after being tipped off about the suspects,” he said.
“Police arrested them while they were sleeping in their houses.
“They also confiscated two shotguns from them and upon interrogation, these suspects revealed all the other suspects’ names allegedly involved in piracy around the bay area that stretched from Wagawaga to Alotau town to East Cape to Awayama and along the north coast towards the border of Northern,” Supt Barike said.
