THE declaration of nine hydro power projects by Finschhafen landowner company Kuwec Q Power Ltd (KQPL) in Morobe is signalling the start of the multi-million kina power project.
However, the project is still to be developed despite four foreign companies showing interest in financing it.
It is being delayed because PNG Power Ltd requires that a final feasibility had to be done before construction starts.
The hydro power projects are located at Burum-Kuat and Hube LLGs in Finschhafen district.
Three hydro projects are planned for three different locations.
KQPL chairman Aaron Hero Gonieng called on landowners to stand together.
“We have 25 incorporated land groups from Monghi in Hube, and 23 from Burum LLG,” he said.
“Those other landowners who are still to come up with their ILGs are encouraged to complete it and join in.”
According to PPL engineer John Marcus, the Monghi hydro power project had huge economic potential for the country.
He said PPL would not sign a power purchase agreement until feasibility studies had been completed.
