MEMBERS of the Madib clan at Yabob village in Madang have called for the immediate eviction of settlers at Banana Block.

That follows the attack on a clan member during the new year celebrations.

The clan member said he was speared in the stomach for providing refuge to a woman who was continuously beaten by her husband.

The couple from Goroka, Eastern Highlands, often had fights. The wife hid herself at the clan member’s home near Banana Block.

The Gorokas and Simbus living at the settlement attacked him.

The clan member said as the future chief of the Madib clan who owned the land where Madang town was, he wanted the settlers moved away immediately.

He said the issue developed into a fight between the settlers at Banana Block and members of the clan at Yabob village.

“It is a reserve land for the local Yabob people,” he said.

He said the new settlement behind the bushes at the back of Handy Mart and National Works facility was expanding fast and must be stopped.

“I call on Governor Jim Kas to visit the illegal settlement and do something about this,” he said.
