Classes resume after school addresses health concerns

CLASSES have resumed at the Dregerhafen Secondary School in Finschhafen after health concerns were addressed by the school administration.
The school was closed on March 4 with more than 1800 students sent home.
The closure was due to a health survey conducted at the school by the district health services last November.
It revealed defective sanitary facilities, inadequate and unreliable water supply, unhygienic mess facility, defective building structures and overcrowding.
Provincial environment health officer Zambuna Gina said they also considered complaints from parents and students on the health situation there.
Board chairman Bussim Stoessel said classes for grades 9 to 12 began on Monday.
“The school needs to adhere to recommendations from district health officials,” Stoessel said.
“The water supply system is back to normal, while work on ablution blocks is still in progress.
“The work on decreasing the student enrolment is ongoing, and some students have already been removed.”
Stoessel said the board’s last meeting had approved to hold fundraising projects to support the school.
