THE Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) will promote low carbon growth in the country through the implementation of a mitigation sector programme with development partners, acting managing director William Lakin says.
Lakin said CCDA had been working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the facilitating renewal energy and energy efficiency applications for greenhouse gas emission reduction (Freager) project to promote low carbon growth and invest in renewable energy to ensure people have access to renewable and affordable energy.
“We are supporting energy sector mitigation programme that will promote greenhouse gas emission reduction and contributing to socio-economic developments and support projects to put in place the necessary policy and regulatory framework for PNG to enable applications of renewable energy and energy efficiency implementation in the country,” he said during the presentation of K200,000 in Port Moresby yesterday to support the UNDP’s Freager project.
Lakin said fund would help UNDP to implement Freager project to promote renewable energy in rural areas in the country.
He said the money was allocated from the CCDA revenue initiatives to support energy sector mitigation programme to promote to support UNDP.
“The amount of K200,000 was raised from the recent climate change revenue-raising initiatives within the last five months.”
