DISCUSSIONS have begun on key climate change issues affecting the country.
Among the issues being thrashed out at a forum are the reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD) and the climate change compatible policy.
Stakeholders will be making presentations during the three-day forum which ends tomorrow.
UNDP programme manager Arthur Neher outlined the United Nation’s role in the REDD programme and discussed the involvement of stakeholders.
He said stakeholder consultations and discussions were important as they forged the way forward on the REDD programme.
He urged the stakeholders to ensure the programme was workable in the local communities.
“It is also important to know the social and environmental safeguards of the REDD programme,” Neher said.
“Know about it and integrate it into our work and see if this will service the REDD programme.”
