Lifestyle diseases have become an important issue in the country but one local health service provider has been working to raise awareness about it in Wewak for more than 15 years.
The Well Adult Mobile Clinic Ministry of the Gander Memorial SDA Church in Wewak was initiated in 1999 by health workers at the church.
They saw the need to raise awareness and provide health checks.
Health ministry leader Roven Kangei said the group was initiated to serve members of their church but they were now serving the wider community and were happy to partner other organisations who could assist them.
“We don’t receive funding support but have contributed to pay for the equipment we use and most of our checks like blood pressure are done for free but we only charge a small fee for blood glucose tests so we can purchase the required items,” Kangei said.
The ministry consists of 25 members of the Gander Memorial Church.
