Clinic in need of staff
The National, Wednesday March 26th, 2014
STAFF at the Butibum clinic in Lae are over-worked because of the lack of manpower, an official says.
Sister-in-charge Nancy Taleng said the situation was one staff treating 20 patients per day.
“Last week I had to send some patients home because we were short of staff,” Taleng said.
Taleng said there were many people seeking treatment at the clinic daily.
She said many of the sick people came from places such as Bumbu, Hunter, Butibum, Waria Compound, China Town and Voco Point.
She urged the human resources division of the Morobe provincial administration to recruit more nurses, sisters and health workers for the clinic.
She told patients at the clinic that because of the shortage of staff, they must look after their health and hygiene so that they did not get sick.
“White people have family doctors,” Taleng said.
“When they are sick they go to their family doctors.
“But in PNG, the nurses, sisters and health workers are your doctors.
“When you are sick, you come to us for medicine.”
Meanwhile, health workers in Lae observed the World TB Day by conducting awareness in the city.
They covered Voco Point, Main Market, Town and Eriku with their “Stop TB” campaign and awareness campaigns.
