Clinic lacks Govt support

Health Watch

A PIONEER sexual health clinic in Port Moresby that serves more than 2,000 people is on the verge of closing due to a lack of funding from the Government.
Anglicare’s Begabari sexual health clinic was established during the national HIV epidemic in 2000 and this closure would displace 2,300 people living with HIV (PLWHIV) registered in care denying the rights of client privacy and confidentiality enjoyed at this facility.
It would also deny around 300 people that access the clinic daily for primary healthcare services.
Anglicare PNG Inc had a partnership agreement with the Health Department and then National Capital District health services to upgrade Begabari clinic to an urban clinic (Level 3) , however, the health authority through the Health Department did not fully maintain the agreement.
