HEALTH clinic ship Kula Spirit, is carrying out  family-planning implants on women in Rossel Island, Milne Bay.

Spacim Pikinini’s chief executive Wendy Stein said the first outreach was at Ferguson Island.

She said Rossel Island was far from the rest of  Milne Bay’s

population and had about 10,000 people.

Stein said fathers showed support by bringing their wives for the implant insertion.

She said family planning should be made available to struggling families, especially the ones in the villages.

She said many families were faced with food and water storage problems.

She said the people in rural areas, especially islands, missed out on health services like the family planning.

“Therefore,  more awareness on family planning should be carried out in rural areas,” she said.

“This will improve the health of mothers and their children including the health of fathers too in villages.”
