Clinic to boost 30,000 people
MORE than 30,000 people living in West and East Taraka in Lae will benefit from a new urban clinic valued at K9 million.
The clinic would be funded by Australian Aid through Asian Development Bank (ADB) with partnership from the government.
The old West Taraka urban clinic was closed last July 31, awaiting a restructure and development, according to sister-in-charge Elizabeth Mes.
The clinic’s official ground breaking ceremony was held last Friday.
Mes said a lot of people go there for medical services.
“The new centre will benefit everyone and also boost our capability to serve and attend to patients,” she said.
The centre will undergo a 12-month restructure and redevelopment into a modern urban health facility that will improve the health and medical service standard in Lae.
Australian consul general Paul Murphy said the project was part of the US$500mil (K1.73bil) health infrastructure programme. He said another health facility would be built at Tent City near Bumayong.
