Club assists Prinzi with wheelchair

A YOUNG man from the Sialum local level government area of Tewae-Siassi, Morobe, was given a new wheelchair by the Rotary club of Lae Huon Gulf and Farmset Ltd on Friday in Lae.
Winnie Prinzi, 30, lives at Kaisa, Tent City.
His mother and siblings took care of his needs as he was growing up.
Mother Bomokec told The National that she had been taking care of him without his father, who had passed on.
“This is the fifth time a wheelchair has been given to help Prinzi so that he can be mobile,” Bomokec said. “The fourth one was bought by his uncle after our appeal for wheelchair was unsuccessful, but now, we are thankful to the Lae Huon Gulf Rotary club and Farmset for their assistance.”
Farmset branch manager Rodel Navarette said they called the president of the Rotary club Catherine Galgal to tell her that they were looking for a couple of wheelchairs.
“We’ve seen people trying to get around the streets on their hands, legs and knees,” he said. “Basically, we asked Catherine if the club had any wheelchairs we could modify and give away to the people that needed them.
“We want to help some of the poor people that struggle around the streets, giving them a bit of helping hand and some dignity.
“The club was kind enough to give us a couple of chairs that were modified to suit the conditions,” Navarette said.
Galgal said it was part of Rotary’s projects in health and education where they continuously support, especially health.
“The wheelchairs are donated by our Rotary counterparts in Australia,” she said.
“Few of the wheelchairs we got lately needed to be more suitable for people in the country and that’s why I contacted Farmset.
“We are thankful to Farmset to come on board and assist us in modifying the wheelchairs to suit the road conditions that we have and making it stress-free for persons living with disabilities to use here in Lae.”
