THE Royal Papuan Yacht Club (RPYC) celebrated its 99 years as a yachting club in the country last Tuesday.
General-manager Aaron Batts said the club came a long way since birth of what was known as the Port Moresby Aquatic Club in 1921, to the formation of Papuan Yacht Club in 1957 and finally the granting of a royal charter in 1977.
“The club has seen many transformations from 1921 to the modern day, not just with club house location and marina development, but in the diversity of its members and of course modern technology,” he said.
“We are a members club.”
“You must be a member or signed in visitor to enter the RPYC.”
Batts said they first commenced on June 2, 1921, under commodore Arthur Travers and 99 years later, under commodore Kilroy Genia.
