THE West Rugby League Football Club has appointed three former Kumuls to lead their 2013 campaign in the Port Moresby rugby league competition.
West president Manu Lofena appointed former Kumul centre/winger Joshua Kouoru as head coach to replace another star in five-eighth Tuksy Karu, who is now the assistant coach with Felix Taria and veteran lock Gideon Kouoru as the team management. Trainer Andrew Stone is retained.
Kouoru Junior is a certified level two coach.
He had stints with NRL club Canberra Raiders and lived and played in the North Queensland region competition for two years.
His experience will motivate and boost the morale of up-and-coming youngsters.
Lofena is confident that the Kouoru brothers – Joshua, Gideon and Karu – will try to regain lost pride.
He warned the coaching staff that discipline should be instilled on and off the field as they were the role models.
New executives appointed are secretary Andrew Runawery, treasurer Kevin Yore and officer helping the president, Tony Tadabe.
Lofena is confident that the high profiled executives will produce positive results for the former glamour club and take it to new heights this year.
This season the club is providing a good package and incentive for players although a new major sponsor is yet to be named.
He said a sponsor would be announced within two weeks.
Lofena said the club was in training at the PRL 2 oval and interested players were welcome to vie for positions.
He said there were only 30 spaces available for the A grade and 25 players for Under-19.
He said a team would be selected comprising of U19 players including few regulars to take part in the SP Brewery-sponsored 9s tournament on Friday.
Lofena said this year the club had been recognised again by the Gulf Isapea franchise as a feeder club.
He said as the feeder club to Gulf Isapea, West had benefitted with most of its players recognised in the semi-professional Digicel Cup in its debut last year.
