CRICKET clubs and associations in the National Capital District have been urged to refrain from gathering and taking part in group training following the Government’s 14-day lockdown of Port Moresby.
Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) warden and programme manager Margaret Sibona said last week that the lockdown restrictions would not apply to competitions and activities in Central.
“Due to the lockdown, all training, competitions and matches in Port Moresby are on hold until the lockdown is over,” she said.
“Central and other provinces in the country can operate as normal.
“We will advise all associations and clubs on additional protocols to be in our CPNG guidelines as stated in order nine of the National Pandemic Act for business and social measures and then submit them to PNG Sports Foundation’s pandemic committee.
“After all this is done, we will then advise accordingly.”
The Isuzu National Cup was the first major tournament for CPNG to be suspended following its launch in Port Moresby last month.
Teams were only able to play their first-round matches before the lockdown was imposed.
CPNG has also advised the men’s and women’s national teams to avoid training at Amini Park as per the lockdown measures.
Meanwhile, CPNG programmes such as its school cricket project and Cricket for Good have also been put on hold and will also be subject to review once the restrictions are lifted.
