Coach Farina to join team for Nations Cup campaign
FIJI’S national soccer coach Frank Farina is expected to join his team when they play the Solomon Islands in their second game tomorrow at Sir John Guise Stadium.
Farina, a former Socceroos coach, was denied entry at Jackson International Airport, Port Moresby, on Thursday on arrival with the team out of Nadi.
He was not with the team in their opening match against New Zealand, as Fiji’s defence collapsed, allowing the All Whites to score two goals.
Farina, who was born in PNG, had served as the PNG men’s national coach for the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia.
The Australian is currently in Suva making arrangements with the PNG High Commission to have his visa approved for him to join the team in Port Moresby.
Farina said assistant coaches Kamal Swamy and Yogendra Dutt were in charge of the first game against New Zealand.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Bob Kumar said: “Farina should be with the team for their second game tomorrow.”
