Coach passionate about job

MATTHEW Church says he is passionate about his job as the SP Hunters coach as he heads into his second Queensland Intrust Super Cup season in the role.
The Australian told The National yesterday that he had more to offer to rugby league in Papua New Guinea by helping youngsters in the Hunters system be successful players. “This is a role I hold with honour,” he said.
“I have committed myself to do my best in helping our players through their careers.”
Church said the Hunters’ relocation to Queensland next year would allow him to be closer to his family but added that he would spend more of his time preparing his men. “When you are involved in football, you spend a lot of your time attending training and matches,” he said.
“My family knows that I am driven and I want to make the most of the opportunity I have as the Hunters coach. They remain supportive and proud that I am helping our players through their careers.” Church said his players were “like family” to him and his own family members were Hunters supporters.
“My father lives in Cairns and the rest of my family is in Brisbane,” he said.
“My whole family got to be part of the Hunters family in the only game we played out of PNG (against South Logan Magpies) early this year.
Church said it filled him with great pride to see his family be involved with my PNG family and to support the team.
“It’s great to see them being supportive and be part of the Hunters family,” the SP Hunters mentor said.
