WAIGANI Ira Lais coach Andrew Andiki has described the K3,000 fine slapped on his club as harsh and accused Ipatas Cup organisers of exaggerating the incident on Sunday.

Andiki was alleged to have assaulted referee John Kilori during the Souhern challenge quarter-finals match against Parisco Brothers.

According to an Ipatas Cup judiciary committee report, Andiki, who also has a position with Digicel Cup franchise Hela Wigmen, caused a disturbance at the main grand stand at the Sir William Skate oval in Kaugere when taking a complaint to match officials.

Andiki denied that there was a physical confrontation with Kilori but did admit swearing and making threatening gestures towards the match official in relation to an earlier match against Lagaip Brothers.

“I never assaulted Kilori and the referees as stated in Tuesday’s paper. The story in the newspaper  and comments on facebook have spoiled my name,” Andiki said.

He added that fining the team for an indiscretion he had committed was unfair as the players and management had nothing to do with the incident.
