OCEANIA Rugby is pleased with the interest shown in sevens coaching after running clinics over the past two week.
“We see a lot of potential, especially women coaches,” Oceania Rugby regional training manager Talemo Waqa said.
Waqa was pleased with the turnout for the clinics as he stressed they were vital in preparing Papua New Guinea and other Pacific nations for the Oceania Sevens.
“We’re looking to boost this sevens coaching programme in PNG as they prepare for the Oceania Sevens this year,” Waqa said.
“It’s also an Olympic qualifier.
“We hope the coaches help their clubs pick a national team.
“If coaches get better at the provincial and club level then the national team can be better and well prepared for the Oceania Cup.
“Surprisingly, three women are really getting the hang of coaching rugby sevens and we really appreciate it.”
