Coates suffers ankle injury in first half

SYDNEY: Xavier Coates was helped from the field in the first half of last night’s State of Origin game with an ankle injury that could see him spend several weeks on the sidelines.
Coates fell awkwardly after tackling New South Wales Blues debutant Kotoni Staggs in the first half, and was unable to continue.
Queensland doctors told to Channel Nine reporters on the night that he had sustained a suspected syndesmosis injury.
Meanwhile, Bronco Staggs had limited opportunities in his debut game but looked dangerous given the slightest amount of room.
Staggs was unfortunately forced off with a shoulder injury early in second half while his Brisbane teammate Payne Haas was the only Blues forward to run for more than 100 metres during the series opener last night.
