COCA-COLA Amatil is disappointed that its “Share a Coke” campaign has been hijacked by social media users to incite derogatory responses from the community.
The company said the culprits had modified the drink label with inappropriate words.
General manager Philippe Mondada told The National that the company took these irresponsible actions seriously.
“We urge those who have hijacked this campaign to immediately stop what they are doing,” he said.
“We will not hesitate to engage the authorities to ensure those who are responsible for this act of social media vandalism are brought to justice.
“As a good corporate citizen, Coca-Cola Amatil does not operate in any way, shape or form that defames or brings disrespect to people, race, religion, beliefs, culture or constitutional rights of countries, societies and communities we operate in.
“This opposes our advocacy for diversity, inclusion and equality.
“In the short time that we have launched this campaign, we have seen a very positive response coming from our consumers.
“We invite consumers to participate in this campaign as a way to spread moments of joy and happiness among family, friends and the community at large, especially during this difficult time.”
Coca-Cola Amatil PNG recently launched the “Share a Coke” campaign in PNG.
It is a global campaign with the aim of creating a more personal relationship with consumers and inspire shared moments of happiness by using customised words and names on the product label.
