Cocaine-like stuff found

POLICE have discovered a substance believed to be cocaine concealed in cigarettes inside a container at Motukea Wharf in Port Moresby.
The police drug squad armed with a search warrant searched a 20-foot container on Feb 12 shipped from Australia.
It contained 400 boxes of cigarette, with the substance concealed in the cigarette butts.
Drug squad officer Chief Sergeant Zigomein Sirike said they obtained a search warrant to search the container after a tip-off.
“It was not easy to search the container as the PNG Customs officers had been obstructing us to search the container,” he said.
“We searched the container on the fourth attempt after obtaining a search warrant.”
He said a sniffer dog led them to the boxes containing what was believed to be cocaine.
The 12 boxes were taken to police headquarters to be tested by police forensic scientists.
Sirike said officers from the Australian Federal Police conducted the preliminary tests using the cocaine test kits.
“We will do further testing in a professional laboratory,” he said.

  • Those customs officers need to be investigated for obstruction of police duty. Are they not part and parcel of the border protection force of this country? Why would they obstruct the police in carrying out their lawful duty? Not unless they have a stake in the goods being checked. This is why corruption is so endemic in this country. Could someone in authority please probe further into these customs officers?

  • I believe some of these bad apples in the pack of good ones collude with these executives of companies and take bribes, therefore are not doing their mandated task. No wonder illegal/ questionable items are sold chiefly on the street and shelves of some shops.

  • Excelent job RPNGC for a job well done. Cocaine is a dangerous drug and we cannot allow that to affect of people.
Investgation must be carried out to find out who is involged in transporting these drugs and where us it heading.

  • Hang the person bringing in such substances….if other countries can take lives of drug trafficers we should also do the same here…

  • It’s an uphill battle for police if they have to go to such lengths to carry out there duty.
The custom officials first should be arrested and charged, all of them.
This is how the Chinese are bringing in all there illegal goods, by the container load and regularly also.

  • I agree that those customs officers involved in obstructing police personnel in this case should all be arrested and charged accordingly.

  • Previous weeks ago a fake tinned meat food was found in chinese shop. Again another unwanted and very bad drug was found. Are these customs officer doing their work honestly to save this country or are they working to fill up their own pockets and threw this country into rubbish dump. Relevant authorities please look into it and do the right thing for them.

  • Why PNG Custom Officers stopping you from search?
Its a clear indication that they have been feed on from such an illegal practice for so long and degrading the country and its people big time.
If possible investigate those custom officers and have them charged if possible sacked them from work.
