Coffee grower earns top marks in US

THE renowned Korona coffee plantation, now operating as Korona Enterprise Ltd (KEL), is making its coming back as one of the best coffee plantation in the highlands region by securing the 8th position in a specialty coffee cupping competition in the United States recently.
A proud Philip Megani Kahento, who manages the coffee plantation with his mother and immediate family members, visited the Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC) Ltd head office in Goroka recently to reveal the news to them.
He said the coffee samples from Korona coffee plantation were sent to the Rainforest Alliance cupping challenge in  December last year, through his association with the Monpi Coffee Ltd and had been ranked 8th out of a field of 35 coffee producers who sent in samples from Kenya, Brazil, Peru and Indonesia.
Coffee from KEL scored 82.67% slightly above Kenyan producers like Yadini Estate (82.46%), Kandara Farmers Co-op Society and Baragwi Farmers Co-op Society both at (82.17%).
