COFFEE Industry Corporation (CIC), under its Productive Partnership in Agriculture Project (PPAP), has started the process to establish the coffee export e-management system.
CIC-PPAP Manager Potaisa Hombunaka said the system would be rolled out in October this year.
“People have just been moving papers around and it was likely that something would go wrong and things have gone wrong in the past,” Hombunaka said.
“Export e-management system was funded by the CIC-PPAP where we put out the expression of interest and we have 10 consultants who have applied.
“From next week, we will be shortlisting them and will finally choose one of the consultant and by June we should have that completed. By July we should have a consultant coming in to start work and in October we will roll it out,” he said.
Hombunaka said the consultant would design the new export management system so that major stakeholders were captured and have access to the system.
“When an exporter wants to export, they lodge their application online so CIC officers responsible will action it immediately and approval is done and we get the coffee on the container and shipped overseas,” he said.
The coffee exports engagement system aims to address:

  • Workflow of current export process;
  • integrate platform of stakeholders;
  • manage critical documents captured for exports;
  • limit unnecessary manual paper work;
  • capture critical statistics on exports;
  • ensure timely approval and clearance of exports;
  • ensure compliance for quality and exports processing;
  • ensure timely collection of export levy; and,
  • Reduce export process time to 60 per cent.
