AN induction workshop for coffee inspectors within the industry regulations and compliance section of the Coffee Industry Corporation Ltd are satisfied with basic police duties they were taught at a workshop last Friday.

The workshop facilitated at the Kefamo Catholic Mission by former CIC chief executive officer Ricky Mitio, was aimed at upgrading the skills of inspectors as well as educating them on related police duties consistent with their duties.

Revisiting and coming up with innovative ways to phase away some of the outdated regulatory laws of CIC were also reasons for running the workshop.

Police officers from the prosecutions and training sections at the Goroka police station who were the workshop’s guest facilitators, imparted invaluable knowledge related to the arrest of offenders including prosecution of offenders.

Senior police prosecutor Sergeant Joe Pipi and provincial police trainer, Senior Constable Ruben Hombiae told the workshop participants that becoming police reservists this year the inspectors have powers under provisions of the Arrest Act to arrest and prosecute any offender.

PNG Coffee Exporters Council chairman, Jon Edwards who was also a guest facilitator, told the inspectors that up to 15 per cent of green bean coffee delivered to warehouses for export was normally reprocessed due to high content of defects.
