Millions of kina in coffee derivation grants and others earmarked for the people of Eastern Highlands will become available when there is stability in Government, prominent coffee producer Ferro Yasona says.
Yasona, who is called the ‘Coffee King’ of Eastern Highlands, operates his Ramu Coffee out of Kainantu.
He wants to see the release of the grants as well as tangible benefits from major projects like Ramu Two hydro, Korofeigu agriculture park, Agriculture Park, Mt Victor mine, Crater Mountain gold and others.
Since political and administrative stability is crucial to drive developments, Yasona, candidate for Eastern Highlands Regional in last year’s election, has withdrawn his election petition case against Governor Peter Numu.
“I decided to withdraw the case against Numu because of impact projects coming to the province that will generate huge economic returns for the people and the Government,” he said.
“One year of this current term of Parliament is gone. We have four years left.
“There is not much time left. I have concern for the people of Eastern Highlands, therefore, I withdraw my petition against the election victory of Numu.”
Yasona said he spent millions of kina and resources to contest the election last year.
“There are many development projects in the six districts that need attention,” he said.
“Eastern Highlands, as a major coffee-producing province, will contribute in the annual coffee export volumes”.
