THE final report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Finance Department has been presented to Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare.
Inquiry chairman Justice Maurice Sheehan presented the report to Sir Michael in the presence of commissioner Don Manoa, Prime Minister’s chief of staff Paul Bengo, acting Chief Secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc and acting secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and NEC, Margaret Elias.
“I will study the more than 800-page report before taking it to Cabinet,” Sir Michael said after receiving the report.
“I intend to seek Cabinet endorsement of certain measures that will enable implementation of the recommendations of the report,” he said.
He said in the meantime, he had asked Mr Zurenuoc and Ms Elias to put together a team that would oversee the implementation of the recommendations.
Sir Michael said he would also table a report in the next sitting of Parliament.
“This was quite a complex inquiry but I commend Justice Sheehan and his commission staff for the professional discharge of their duties and due diligence in producing and presenting this final report,” he said.
