INTERNATIONAL soft drinks company Coca-Cola has launched a campaign to spread positive messages about Papua New Guinea to the people, a company spokeswoman said in Lae.

In a statement, Coca-Cola PNG representative Louise Maher said the company’s “Reasons to Believe” campaign would take off in 70 countries today with each country having their own inspirational message promoted.

The campaign in PNG was aimed at inspiring the people to see positivity in the country and to support local industry.

“Starting today, as a tribute to PNG, we are launching an inspirational campaign called ‘Reasons to Believe’, which talks about how Coca-Cola inspires moments of optimism and pride to the whole nation and supporting our local industry with the PNG Made message at the core is something we should do in unity,” Maher said.

“… (Despite) the negativity seen globally, we in Papua New Guinea have many things to be positive and proud of – from our culture and traditions, to our children at school and to the many who aspire to design a better future.

“Reasons to Believe celebrates PNG and the PNG Made message.

“We (the company) look for opportunities to create a positive difference in people’s lives, and Reasons to Believe aims to help spread the same message,” Maher said.

Coca-Cola Amatil general manager Peter Carey said: “With all of the challenges we are facing every day, it is very easy for us to feel discouraged.

“We have initiated a great campaign, allowing our consumers to be inspired and for the PNG Made message to be a source of inspiration in supporting local industry.

“Supporting PNG Made has a core importance to our nation.”

Carey said the company employed 825 staff in PNG “which has a flow on effect on over 2300 dependents”.
