EARLY childhood is an important stage in a person’s life as it shapes and influences the type of person one becomes, Buk Bilong Pikinini Early Childhood coordinator Elizabeth Omeri said yesterday.
Omeri said to mark the global activity week for early childhood care and education, Buk Bilong Pikinini was carrying out different activities in the country to promote the importance of early childhood.
She said it was vital for people to know the importance of early childhood and how to bring up a child.
She said the distribution of Colgate tooth paste and tooth brushes to Buk Bilong Pikinini
centres around the coun-
try was one of the planned activities for the week.
She said children from those centres would be celebrating World Malaria Day tomorrow and their open day on Friday to showcase what they had learnt.
“We are involved with other  stakeholders to bring awareness and advocate through radio talkback shows for the need for a positive agenda for rights in early childhood, that recognises children as rights bearers and that points towards fulfilled and dignified childhoods and a positive unfolding of children’s present and future,” she said.
Omeri said the distribution of the tooth paste and brushes was a partnership between Colgate Palmolive and Buk Bilong Pikinini.
Colgate Palmolive health educator John Nicolas said they aimed to distribute packs to 100,000 people in the country.
In Port Moresby, Colgate Palmolive made visits to Buk Bilong Pikinini libraries at Six-Mile Police Station, Hohola Red Cross Special Education Centre, and the University of PNG yesterday.
It will visit the other libraries at Koki, 3-Mile and Konedobu tomorrow.
