College head stresses value of teaching science

A TEACHERS college principal has stressed the importance of teaching Science subjects in school.
Melanesia Nazerene Teachers College principal Totobe Simolo said the lessons taught should require critical and analytical thinking.
Jiwaka education division inspector Thomas Kari also said primary school should have proper facilities for science subjects.
Kari urged the Government to provide facilities, researches and training for simple science in primary level and advance science in higher education
Kawe Neuendorf, a Mathematics and Science lecturer at the University of Goroka said it was important for primary school teachers to teach Science properly so that children appreciated it.
“Teaching science at an early age is building that foundation,” he said.
Neuendorf said students entering universities were reluctant to take up Science courses offered to become Science teachers because they were not provided the foundation at primary and secondary school level.
